The Hellenic Vegetarian Association, HellasVeg, actively participated in the Vegan Life Festival 2025, showcasing initiatives that highlight both the development and promotion of vegetarian nutrition in Greece. The festival took place on October 4th and 5th in the Technopolis area of the Municipality of Athens, in Gazi, attracting a large number of visitors and gaining significant popularity.
The Vegan Life Festival serves as a celebration of vegetarianism, expression, health, and sustainability, uniting all who share these values with respect and solidarity. HellasVeg, as a supporter of this idea, actively participated with the goal of expanding access to healthy and sustainable vegetarian options.
A central element of HellasVeg’s participation was the promotion of the vegetarian map, an important digital tool that collects and presents restaurants from various regions of Greece offering vegetarian options as main dishes on their menus. This facilitates consumer access to vegetarian-friendly restaurants across the country, effectively promoting a diet accessible to everyone and supporting the growth of businesses that align with this direction. This initiative received particularly positive feedback from the public, as it addresses a significant gap in the domestic dining sector.
Additionally, scientific representatives from HellasVeg delivered informative and scientific talks during the festival, addressing a broad audience and providing valuable and necessary information for understanding and accepting vegetarianism as a lifestyle that respects diversity and promotes everyone’s health.
Specifically, Fotini Konstantinou, Clinical Biologist, collaborator at the “MITERA” Oncology Clinic, and a member of the Board of Directors of HellasVeg, presented a talk titled “Nutrition for Reducing the Risk of Breast, Prostate, and Colorectal Cancer.” Her presentation focused on the latest scientific developments regarding the role of vegetarian nutrition in reducing the risk of these serious conditions, offering practical advice and scientifically-backed information for promoting health through dietary practices. Following her, the scientific officer of HellasVeg, Maria Chamilaki, Agronomist and Food Scientist, MSc, took the stage. She presented a talk titled “Changing Preferences: Analyzing the Attitudes of Greek Consumers Towards Plant-Based Diets Based on HellasVeg’s 2024 Study.” Her presentation covered the evolution of the demand for and acceptance of vegetarian products in the Greek market, providing valuable insights into current trends, challenges, and opportunities emerging in the field of vegetarianism in Greece. HellasVeg’s participation in the Vegan Life Festival 2025 represented a comprehensive effort to highlight vegetarian philosophy through practical tools like the vegetarian map, as well as through scientific documentation and analysis. In this way, the Association significantly contributed to public awareness and education, as well as to strengthening collaboration networks among consumers, food service professionals, and scientists supporting sustainable and healthy vegetarian nutrition.
