With thousands of visitors and strong interest, the Vegan Life Festival 2025 has returned to Athens, confirming its status as the largest vegan event in Greece. The event, held since 2016 and this year under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens, gathered people of all ages around topics of nutrition, environment, health, and social awareness, combining lectures, workshops, and children’s activities, creating a multi-dimensional festival for everyone.
Impressions and Highlights
The festival featured various booths, workshops, talks, and musical events, creating a rich experience for visitors. Guests found themselves in a vibrant environment filled with colors, aromas, and flavors. The booths offered a wide variety of vegan products: handmade candles, jewelry, natural cosmetics, as well as food catering to every taste—from vegan gyros and fiber-rich legume burgers to ice creams and sweets without animal ingredients. Many visitors tried recipes for the first time, while others sought more specialized products or new trends in plant-based nutrition. The variety was such that even the most demanding visitors found something to excite them.
Cooking workshops were particularly popular, where chefs presented practical ways to prepare everyday vegan meals, and visitors had the chance to learn how to create delicious and nutritious plant-based recipes, such as tofu with eggplant stew, vegan stir-fry with soy and tzatziki, autumn French toast with vanilla cream, cauliflower recipes, and traditional Palestinian dishes—all without animal ingredients. The demonstrations combined technique, taste, and sustainability, showing that plant-based cuisine can be equally creative and enjoyable.
Scientific Interest and Talks
The lecture program attracted public interest, as experts shared the latest knowledge about plant-based nutrition and its impact on human health. Topics discussed included the effects of plant-based diets and exercise on metabolic health, gut microbiota and its role in overall well-being, and a special section dedicated to the prevention of chronic diseases through diet, with an emphasis on breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer.
Research data outlining trends in the Greek public’s attitudes towards plant-based nutrition were also presented. Recent research by HellasVeg, which institutionally supports the festival, records a continuous increase in interest for more sustainable and ethical dietary choices, especially among younger age groups.
The content of the talks was not limited to scientific fields. Issues of social ethics and law were also highlighted through the presentation “Our Animal Friends: The New Subjects of Law.” The audience actively participated with questions and discussions, demonstrating that interest in scientifically substantiated information about vegan philosophy is essential.
Additionally, the new book by Petros Katsakos, “Stories Without a Voice” (published by Oktana), was presented, where the animals themselves narrate their stories in the first person, recounting tales of brutal exploitation by humans for meat, fur, bones, milk, or any other part deemed useful. Coordinated by Elli Stourna, co-founder of the Vegan Life Festival, and with an introduction by MP Ms. Efi Achtsioglou and philosophy professor Mr. Panagiotis Tsiamouras, a discussion full of emotional charge took place, listening to some of these stories.
Beyond lectures for adults, the festival also catered to younger visitors with activities that combined learning with creativity. Children participated in creating posters in favor of voluntary blood donation, theatrical games, and workshops where they transformed plastic waste into useful items, such as in the “eco workshop,” where a plastic waste item was transformed into a flower pot or a comb. Young participants also had the opportunity to learn about animal care and recycling while painting, storytelling, and planting their own plants, combining education and entertainment in the best way.
Social Dimension and Sustainability
Beyond entertainment and education, the festival also highlighted a social dimension. Volunteer blood donation was organized in collaboration with the National Blood Center, while the clothing swap bazaar reinforced the idea of a circular economy and responsible consumption. Meanwhile, the presence of musical bands and artistic events added vibrancy, enhancing the sense of community that permeated the event.
An Inspiring Festival
Although the festival maintains its enthusiasm and positive energy, what stood out in this year’s event was the maturity of the audience and the growing interest in scientific information and sustainable action.
With visitors of all ages, a rich program of talks, creative workshops, and children’s activities, the Vegan Life Festival has evolved into an open space for the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences around plant-based living—not just as a dietary choice, but as a stance towards humanity, animals, and the environment.
We eagerly anticipate the next event!
