Press Release: Official Launch of HellasVeg’s Competition in Thessaloniki “Veg.contest Thessaloniki 2024 – The City’s Gastronomy is Changing”

The Association of Greek Vegetarians “HellasVeg” announces today, Monday, March 11, the official launch of the contest “Veg.contest Thessaloniki 2024 – The city’s gastronomy is changing,” to highlight the best vegetarian (vegan and vegetarian) dishes from restaurants in Thessaloniki.

More than 60 vegetarian or strictly vegan dishes from 25 restaurants in the city will be evaluated starting today, for approximately two months, both for their taste and nutritional profile. These dishes have been specially selected by the restaurants for the competition and will be served from March 11 until May 4, 2024 (Holy Saturday).

During this period, the public is invited to taste and evaluate the competing dishes based on their sensory characteristics, specifically regarding taste, aroma, appearance, and the feeling of satiety after tasting. The participating restaurants will have special markings on the veggie map, and the public will be informed about the competing dishes through the HellasVeg website, where they will also be able to submit their tasting evaluations through an online evaluation platform.

In the second phase, the same dishes will be evaluated by the expert panel for their nutritional value. The final ranking will result from the combined evaluations of both the public and the judges.

The competition will conclude in mid-June with an awards ceremony and the announcement of the winner. The list of selected participating restaurants has been posted on the HellasVeg website at  https://hellasveg.gr/en/veg-contest-2024-restaurant/of HellasVeg.

HellasVeg invites the public and all visitors to the city to actively participate in the competition by tasting and evaluating the competing recipes, thus shaping the final outcome.
