On the weekend of September 26 and 27, 2026, the Kypseli Municipal Market became a meeting, celebration, and information hub for everyone interested in vegetarianism and veganism. HellasVeg was there with veggiemap.gr, as part of the Vegan Vibes September festival.
Organization
The two-day event was organized by Vegan Life, under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens. Admission was free, from 12:00 to 22:00. The program included talks and discussions, workshops, exhibitions, food, music, and informational activities about a plant-based diet, animal rights, and sustainability. A standout moment was the presence of social psychologist Melanie Joy in Athens.
Why we were there?
At HellasVeg, we believe that the ultimate goal is not to convince everyone to change their diet. It is for every person to easily find good vegetarian options when eating out, wherever they are in Greece. This is the very reason veggiemap.gr exists.
What is veggiemap.gr?
Veggiemap.gr is a restaurant map covering the entire country:
- It logs two categories: fully vegetarian/vegan establishments and “friendly” venues that offer standard meat-free main dishes on their menu.
- It helps with choices: using location and dish-type filters, anyone can find where to eat with their friends in just one click, ensuring no one is excluded.
- It gives the public a voice: users rate, write reviews, and upload photos of the dishes they tried, which also helps restaurateurs understand market demand
What we saw in Kypseli
At the Municipal Market, we met people with very diverse dietary preferences: vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians, and individuals who simply wanted to try something new. The discussions at our booth confirmed what we already knew: the public is getting informed, demanding options, and wanting plant-based eating to become a part of everyday life, not an exception.
Conclusion: Eating out becomes more inclusive when there are tools that bring together those who are searching and those who are offering.
Special thanks to Vegan Life for hosting us and for the excellent organization, as well as everyone who visited us, got informed, and embraced our idea.
We renew our appointment for Vegan Vibes February 2027 and promise more surprises!
